Land Programs & Hotels

  • Enjoy one night in Cape Town before flying to the Eastern Cape of South Africa where you will spend two nights at Shamwari’s Long Lee Manor. Take part on several game drives into the bush where you will enjoy an up-close unobstructed view of Africa’s most iconic animals.

SHAMWARI GAME RESERVE: Long Lee Manor

The historical Manor House dating back to 1910, a Shamwari treasure, offers uncompromised luxury in an unprecedented setting. This newly redesigned lodge boasts Edwardian styled suites and a beautiful rim-flow pool. Long Lee Manor redefines elegance in nature. Its manicured gardens, pools and ponds, terraces and verandas all overlook the magnificent plains teeming with wildlife. Guests can surely immerse themselves in nature whilst on safari at this spectacular lodge. Your “Plains Room” has a veranda and outdoor shower as well as an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower.

Note: This program begins in Cape Town therefore arrival flights must be into the Cape Town International Airport.

Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Program details and number of game drives subject to change based on flight details:

    Day 1

Upon arrival at the Cape Town International Airport, you will be met outside the Customs and Immigration area and transferred to your city-based hotel, where you will spend the evening. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Please note that guests who fail to arrive by Day 1 of their land program will be considered a no-show and hotel space for the duration of the program will be released. Arrangements for accommodation and transfers will be at the expense of guests.

    Day 2

After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, you will transfer to the Cape Town International Airport for a domestic flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport, you will transfer 1.5 - 2 hours by road to your safari destination.

Depending on the time of arrival, you will enjoy lunch and then free time at the lodge. In the afternoon, you will gather in the main lodge for tea followed by an open-vehicle game drive. Later, you will return to the lodge for dinner and to spend the evening.

NOTE: Activities and meals on this day are subject to your flight time

    Day 3

You will spend the entire day at your selected establishment, where two game drives and all meals are included.

    Day 4

After one final morning game drive and breakfast, check out and transfer back to the Port Elizabeth Airport and depart on a domestic flight to Cape Town. On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch and dinner on own.

NOTE: Activities and meals on this day are subject to your flight time. The Westin is located within walking distance to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront where you will find a myriad of shops and restaurants.

    Day 5

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel.

After check-out you will have a brief city orientation drive through Cape Town en route to the harbor where you will embark the ship.

    Please note:

-The contents and order of activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife on the reserve.

-Whilst this is a safari area, the animals are wild and so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

-During early morning game drives in open vehicles it can be a little cool. We recommend that guests take along a windbreaker.

-During the day, it can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicles are not covered – and guests are therefore exposed to the elements. Guests are therefore advised not to forget their sunhats, sun block, sunglasses, as well as their cameras and binoculars.

-The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines and certain parts of the game-drive can be bumpy. Not recommended for guests with back & neck problems or pregnant ladies.

-This program is suitable for guests with walking disabilities, providing that a travel companion or spouse accompanies them. Please also note that confirmation would be strictly subject to availability of handicapped rooms at the time of booking.

-No children under 6 years of age are allowed on safari.

-This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers however, the program at the lodge and hotel is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.

Land Program Details Step by Step:

•Please note: The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. This program is subject to flight confirmations which are beyond our control. All program details including timings and any flights indicated below are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change. Direct flights are never guaranteed.

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is June and midsummer is December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year.

The temperatures in the Eastern Cape region in May are comfortable with highs up to 71°F/ 21.6°C.

    What to Bring:

Light cotton tops and cotton trousers and shorts in summer. Safari trousers and warm fleece tops for evenings and cooler days. Also, bring swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, camera, chargers and personal toiletries.

    Currency:

The monetary unit of South Africa is the Rand, divided into cents and abbreviated as R and c. All major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, although Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards.

    Electricity:

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms however we suggest you bring your own travel adaptors if you are bringing electronic devices.

    Luggage:

On the flights from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and vice versa, guests are permitted to check-in 1 piece of luggage at a maximum of 23 kg (50 lbs.) and maximum dimension of 158 cm (62 inches).

Excess luggage (up to 2 pieces of luggage per person) will be stored in Cape Town for the duration of the program where you will be reunited with it at your hotel on Day 4. Please pack accordingly for this and limit the luggage you take on the safari to 1 piece per person.

Overweight or excess bags not stored and brought on the safari will be at the expense of the guest.

Passengers are permitted to travel with one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 8 kg (18 lbs.) and a dimension of 56 cm (22 inches) length, 36 cm (14 inches) width and 23 cm (9 inches) height. If the hand luggage does not conform to the size specified, passengers may be denied entry into the departure area or sent back to the check-in counter.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

    1. Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry this equipment with them on their flights.

    2. The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type)

    3. These documents need to be sent to the Land Program Team via Reservations at RSSC at least one month prior to travel so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).

    4. Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator be responsible for.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

South African Immigrations requires that you have at least two consecutive double-blank pages in your passport, or entry to the country may be denied. Passports should also be valid for more than 6 months at the time of travel. Please consult your local embassy for all visa requirements pertaining to South Africa.

VERY IMPORTANT – The name on your cruise booking, passport and any visas if required, must all be exactly the same for flight ticket purchase otherwise guests may be denied travel by flight. Please ensure that all documents are identical in spelling to the names provided for your cruise reservation including first, middle and last name. Manifests generated by the cruise line must match your travel documents.

Failure to have the required documents ahead of time or incorrect names on flight tickets will result in either denial of travel or ticket re-purchase and guests will be responsible for any fees incurred.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at your hotel and check-out formalities, embark on a half day tour of the city before transferring to the port for embarkation.

Begin with a visit to Table Mountain, the city’s most celebrated landmark!

Travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the lower cableway station. Ascend from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1 060 m) in a Swiss engineered Rotair cable car. The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and one can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent.

Table Mountain gets her name from the flat-topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil’s Peak on the left, Lion’s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheater that encloses the city center and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which run like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point – the cape from which Cape Town gets its name.

From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species – more than the entire U.K.

Upon descent, re-board your vehicle and transfer to the port via a brief city orientation tour of Cape Town passing through Adderley Street and along the Foreshore.

Note: the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain is weather dependent. If not possible due to high winds a stop will be made at a viewing area near the cable car base for photos.

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer at hottest temperatures in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year.

May is a transitional month and marks the end of summer. Temperatures are cooling down to typically 12°C/54°F in the morning and 27°C/81°F in the afternoon.

    What to Bring:

Light cotton tops and cotton trousers and shorts in summer. Safari trousers and warm fleece tops for evenings and cooler days. Swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, camera, film and chargers, personal toiletries and anti-malaria prophylaxis.

    Currency:

The monetary unit of South Africa is the Rand. All major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, although Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards.

    Electricity:

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms however we recommend bringing your own travel adaptor if you are bringing electric devices. Be aware that overnight charging may not be possible where generator use restricts the availability of electricity.

For your economy class internal flights:

*Passengers are permitted to check-in one piece of luggage at a maximum of 23 kg (50 lbs.) and maximum dimension of 158 cm (62 inches) - subject to change by airline

*Excess luggage fees will be paid directly to the airline at the check in counter by guests however should you wish, a maximum of 1 additional piece of luggage per person (23kg/ 50 lbs) can be shipped to Johannesburg where you will be reunited with it on Day 5.

*All hand luggage must be of a size that fits under the seat in front of you or in one of the overhead lockers.

    Checked luggage:

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person (20 kg /44 lbs), excess luggage (1 piece per person 20kg/44 lb) will be shipped via courier to Cape Town where you will be re-united with it on Day 4. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Alternatively, you may wish to contact Luggage Forward to make your own luggage transfer arrangements (at own cost) from your home to the ship - www.luggageforward.com Phone: 877-231-5131
