OVERLAND - EASTERN CAPE SAFARI: EAGLES CRAG CODE: PTEL06
Venture into the pristine bush of the Shamwari Game Reserve on up to four game drives, during which you may see the legendary Big Five and other iconic African animals roaming freely in their natural habitat.
Nota Especial: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
Día 1
Depart Port Elizabeth harbor and transfer to the Shamwari Private Game Reserve. The traveling time is approximately 1.5 hours.
Shamwari is the southernmost, big game, private reserve in Africa and it is malaria free. Esta reserva de animales salvajes de 18.000 hectáreas refleja la historia de los colonos y se remonta a los tiempos en que los animales salvajes vagaban libremente por el Cabo del Este. They are about conserving a vanishing way of life, and Shamwari has been awarded a number of International awards for its efforts in conservation coupled with tourism. Shamwari's highly trained game rangers, with skilled service staff will ensure a memorable adventure. In keeping with its conservation policy, Shamwari has a complete wildlife research team as well as its own anti-poaching unit, ensuring an ecological balance prevails on this reclaimed piece of wilderness.
Tucked away and surrounded by imposing mountain cliffs, Eagles Crag expresses an elegant ambience amid nature’s beauty. Exclusive suites fashioned in glass and stone offer expansive views of the surrounding rock faces where eagles soar. Each suite is a secluded haven in which to unwind in sheer comfort. All nine detached suites can sleep a maximum of 2 adults per suite and include features such as indoor and outdoor shower facilities, bird-spotting scope and a private plunge pool with deck.
Upon arriving at the reserve, check-in at Eagles Crag
Thereafter you will be shown to your rooms for free time to freshen up.
Rejoin in the communal area for high tea and then embark on an afternoon open vehicle game drive. Qualified game rangers will guide you through the bush. Late afternoon is one of the prime times to view wildlife, as it is cooler, and the animals are more active. While there is no telling what you will observe, the reserve is home to countless animals, including the Big Five: elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros and Cape buffalo.
Following the game drive, return to the lodge where dinner will be served, allowing you to discuss your evening’s adventures over some South African cuisine and a glass of wine.
Día 2
Al día siguiente, lo despertarán antes del amanecer. Meet in the reception area for hot beverages, before departing with the rising sun on an early morning game drive. For comfort, it’s always advisable to bring warm clothing, even in the mid-summer, which in South Africa is this time of the year.
Head into the bush in an open-sided 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by knowledgeable rangers and trackers who are skilled at pointing out the various animals.
The reserve sprawls over 60,000 acres of reclaimed Eastern Cape terrain that supports a huge variety of wildlife. You may catch sight of zebras grazing in the grassland, massive hippos wallowing in the mud flats, or herds of antelopes gracefully bounding across the fields. Giraffes often come right up to the vehicles out of curiosity. If you are a bird-lover, you will delight in the chance to see raptors, water birds and unusual ant-eating chats probing the termite mounds. Of course, the Big Five always command attention and they are abundant.
Upon your return, breakfast will be served followed by some free time and then lunch.
In the late afternoon you will re-group for afternoon tea followed by your open-vehicle game drive.
Enjoy drinks and snacks in the bush at sundown before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Día 3
This morning, enjoy one last game drive and then return to the lodge for breakfast before packing your belongings and checking out.
You will be met at the lodge and transferred by coach to the Port Elizabeth Airport for your flight to Richards Bay. Upon arrival in Richards Bay, you will be met and transferred to the Harbor where you will re-join the ship. Drive time is approximately 2 hours.
