Named after the Native American chief Noah Sealth, who in 1851 gave a friendly reception to the first white settlers, Seattle was originally no more than a village of trappers and loggers. Its prosperity came first with the Klondike gold rush of 1897, and subsequently with its two natural resources, lumber and fish. The millions of ties that went into the construction of the first western railroads came mostly from around Seattle and from the state of Washington.

  • OVERLAND - NORTHWEST PASSAGE CODE: SEAL05

Pass through the glorious Pacific Northwest, marveling at its natural beauty and exploring the quintessential attractions in and around Seattle and Portland, two oases with cultures all their own.

    DÍA 1

Disembark the ship in Seattle, meet your guide and begin your Pacific Northwest adventure.

Many call Seattle, “The Emerald City.” There is no wizard, but Seattle certainly has a magic all of its own. It is a dynamic, urban city surrounded by unmatched natural beauty.

Travel through historic districts, rich with culture, and visit many of the neighborhoods that characterize Seattle’s diversity. On a panoramic tour you will see Pioneer Square, the Waterfront, Capitol Hill, Volunteer Park, and South Lake Union, home to Amazon and numerous biotech companies. Nearby Seattle Center features the famous Space Needle, built for the 1962’s World Fair, the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, and many other exciting attractions. Aviso: no inside visits

After seeing the sights of Seattle, head to the east side of Lake Washington, and the town of Woodinville.

In recent years, Woodinville, in the verdant Sammamish River Valley has become known as the place where Washington pours. Wine that is! With more than 100 wineries, four distinct wine-making districts, and more 90+ rated vintages than anywhere else in the world, you are sure to find some wines that excite the palate. At a chosen winery, you will dine on delicious northwest cuisine and a carefully curated selection of paired wines with lunch.

After lunch, there will be time for shopping and strolling in quaint downtown Snoqualmie before heading to the day’s final destination, the Salish Lodge.

Overlooking beautiful Snoqualmie Falls, the Lodge is owned by the local Snoqualmie Indian Tribe. There are two restaurants on site, and a luxurious spa, with Northwest- inspired treatments featuring herbs from the Lodge’s garden or honey from the on-site apiary.

Upon arrival at Salish Lodge, enjoy an evening at leisure and dinner on own.

    DÍA 2

This morning, following time for breakfast at the Lodge, a visit will be made to the falls and the group will enjoy a private, guided tour of the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Plant.

Built in 1898, the powerhouse is encased in bedrock 260 feet beneath the surface. It is one of the oldest hydropower plants in the US and is the world’s first underground power plant. Visit the museum as well as witness the existing generators in action.

Following the visit of the hydroelectric plant, return to Seattle through the beautiful North Cascade Range. The Cascades are known for their tall volcanoes and deep evergreen forests.

Back in the Emerald City, enjoy lunch atop one of the tallest buildings in Seattle - Columbia Tower Club. The spectacular views of the Puget Sound, Olympic Peninsula and Cascade Mountain range will rival the exquisite cuisine you dine upon.

After lunch, return to the coach for a 2-hour drive through central Washington, across the beautiful and historic Columbia River, to this evening’s destination, Portland, Oregon.

If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a view of The Mountain en-route. Mount Tahoma, or Mt. Rainier, is simply known to the locals as “The Mountain,” and the locals count it as a lucky day if the weather permits a peek. If you overhear a local say “The Mountain is out,” you’ll know you are in for an amazing sight!

Arriving in Portland, check in at tonight’s accommodation, The Benson. This historic hotel unites the charm and civility of the old world with elegance of contemporary design. It has long catered to celebrities, business leaders, politicians, and every US president since William H. Taft. Amenities include two award-winning restaurants, and a historic lobby bar. Located in the heart of downtown, it’s just a short walk from the Pearl District, waterfront park, shops, bars and restaurants.

Tonight, you’ll have an evening at leisure to independently explore Portland’s vibrant downtown and enjoy dinner on your own.

    DÍA 3

Begin the morning with a light breakfast at your hotel.

Following breakfast, visit the Portland Rose Garden for a guided tour. This is the oldest official continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States. This beautiful space features more than 10,000 roses. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world enjoy its sights and scents annually. The garden also offers spectacular views of downtown Portland and nearby Mount Hood, another of the Cascade Range’s impressive volcanoes.

Next up, lunch! And you’re in for a food extravaganza. Portland’s food scene hit the foodie world by storm, and it is now the destination for those in the know looking for the next tasty bite. And you’re in luck today because there are several bites lined up.

Enjoy a walking tour in downtown Portland, with stops at several eateries for your delectation. Walk approximately 1½ miles and enjoy four different stops featuring a variety of styles from up-scale restaurants, to casual eateries, to food carts. Although each stop will feature no more than a course, you’re sure to be more than full by the time you climb back onto the coach!

Next sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic 1.5-hour drive to the magnificent Oregon coast, and the charming town of Cannon Beach. You’ll be captivated by the beauty of this seaside town, with its remarkable displays of nature, and multitude of art galleries and unique shops. There will be time explore this marvelous destination independently.

You may want to survey the beautiful natural scenery from easily accessible panoramic viewpoints, set off on a scenic hike or sink your feet in the sandy expanse and breathe deeply. Beautiful beaches graced by dramatic rock formations and stunning coastline viewpoints are just the beginning of what makes Cannon Beach the ultimate Oregon Coast experience.

Should you choose culture over nature, you won’t be disappointed. With over a dozen galleries, you’ll be amazed at the incredible artwork you can find. Cannon Beach features a vast selection of art; everything from watercolor, bronze sculpture, modern and pop art, and blown glass treasures.

At the end of the day, drive the short distance north along the Oregon coast, to the port town of Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River, where you’ll re-board the ship with memories of a one-of-a-kind adventure, and perhaps a few shopping bags of treasures as well!
